about 12" X 18" Acrylic and oil on wood and masonite.

I did this one for my recent show too and it was the one that ate my shirt.... while i was sanding the edges my shirt got sucked into the sander.... it was a little tense there for a minute.

sacrificing for my art... :) i think i came out pretty well in the end.

I really love these softer colors your using, I know you can't really see them but we can!

thanks for the funny story to go with the image, life's moments can be exciting now and then!

Sounds like a close call.

It reminds me of the little warning symbols on my paper shedder. One of them is a necktie with a slash through it. My first thought was "Duh!" followed by a very amusing visual.

I'm a little conflicted about the painting. The woman is rendered so perfectly, carefully and beautifully, I wonder why her face is covered by a simple target. Are the two genres (graphic design and nude figure) juxtaposed in a complementary way or does one interfere with the other. I wonder if this is hanging next to a painting of her head on top of a giant target. Then I thought, perhaps the target calls more attention to the woman, making it a more powerful composition.

Hmm.

I love the softness. The hair is wonderful... I know your'e doing a theme, but I might have liked just the bottom half, cropped where it is here... That's just me.

You're pretty lucky.. that's where those horror-stories come from... :omg:
i appreciate what you have said... .i know what you mean and i think that the bottom part is probably strong enough to stand alone... but this theme i am following is really working for me as it is taking the figure to a place (for me) that gives it a sense of being in the whole realm of life... if that makes any sense...
i guess i look at it like this, (and i have not found a great way to verbalize it yet) but i see the figures as representing the real/physical side of life and the geometrics as representing the spiritual side of being that i think we all have.
and yeah, i am lucky that little incident with the sander could have been a lot worse.

yes i did feel a little like the guy with his tie sucked into the paper shredder... but i survived.

i like all you have said about this painting andrew. and i really appreciate you giving it this much attention and thought...

i was just saying to someone that i this fusion of styles that have going on here has really been working for "me" in that i feel like it has elevated the figures in my painting to something more than just naked people, which unfortunately i think a lot of people think of them as. (i of course disagree with that notion that they are just naked people.)

as soon as i began fusing the two styles together i quit calling the graphic patterns targets, and started calling them geometrics. ( that is a whole other story) but as the geometrics and the figures came together i began to see clearly. the figures represent all that we are physically and reality, all the problems and pains and pleasures and joys, and the geometrics represent the spiritual side that we all have... the side that connects with other people and with God.

This actually is what i have seen in my head all along when i paint figures, and that is why i have such a hard time when people just see them as naked people... to me they are much more than that. and when i started putting the two together it just instantly felt so right... i can best say it like when a woman might say to a man, "you only think of women as a sex objects." but this is showing the figure as more... shows it as the whole person... not just an object.

thanks.

Is it a wonderful feeling when everything is falling to it's place?:-)...Like here too...Her hair is matting perfectly with the yellow circle..that end in a slight different shade...like her hair...Her chin touch the inner circle..... her barest is a circle by it self which make it all round...and all of the geo part became her head and mind...or...her Aura...All cameos together to a meaning...;-)
The most IMPORTANT thing in that one royce is...that you are safe and sound now ..
Now that it also safely hanging in the gallery...it is all perfect!
I still love that one!

Really like how the hair comes into the colors of the "target"... and the lines of it. This one does work so well.
Thanks for the insights. I appreciate the direction you are taking, and the mission to overcome the pedestrian attitude about "pictures of naked people." The notion of representing both mind and body, or the physical and spiritual side as you put it, is a rich area for exploration. I'm sure it will keep you inspired and busy for some time.

I tend to doubt that my spiritual side looks as orderly as your geometry. No wait, I think I'm confusing spirituality with mental clutter. I think I'm most at peace and in touch with my spiritual side when I'm out in the wilderness. But I digress.

Anyway, keep up the creative energy. You seem to be on a roll.
